New Analysis: 2021 TECH Program - Super absorbent polymers (SAP)

NexantECA Super Absorbent Polymers (SAP) - 2021

NexantECA, the Energy and Chemicals Advisory company publishes a new report on Super absorbent polymers (SAP)

Super absorbent polymers (SAP) are a sub-set of polymers that have the ability to absorb liquids (which in most cases are water or aqueous based) many times their own weight. They can be synthesized from a variety of monomers, although the most prevalent is acrylic acid. Other SAPs include starch based systems and other polyacrylates. Figure 1 depicts a generic synthesis of an SAP. In (A), an acrylic monomer is polymerized in the presence of a crosslinker to produce a series of polymer a backbone that are crosslinked. In (B), the schematic of the process is provided along with a schematic of a larger cross-linked polymer network analogous to the cross-linked polymer found in a SAP

This report titled Technoeconomics (TECH) Super Absorbent Polymers (SAP) - 2021 analyzes various technological and commercial aspects of Super Absorbent Polymers (SAP), and provides an overview of the commercial and developing technologies for SAP production. Cost of production estimates have been developed for both solution and suspension process plants located in USGC, Western Europe and China. Commercial applications and global market outlook are also included.
