ABS/SAN Resins (2025 Program)

ABS is produced by the mass (or bulk) or emulsion/mass hybrid polymerization of three monomers: acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene. Additionally, pre-polymerized materials can be compounded together to produce ABS. This technoeconomic report describes these current process routes to ABS as well as the historic emulsion process and new technology developments. Production economics for world-scale mass, hybrid, emulsion, and compounding routes to produce ABS are presented for the United States, Western Europe, and Coastal China. A global capacity list is also provided.
