The relative competitiveness of producing plastics from trees/wood has been reviewed. Process technology and production costs for the various pathways are discussed and evaluated to answer the question of whether this is a game-changer. PET, PP, HDPE regional demand is included.
Renewable technologies for the production of para-xylene are described along with conventional routes. Estimates of the cost of production for three bio-routes are compared to conventional cost of production for the USGC. Regional costs are compared for bio para-xylene in Brazil, Western Europe and the U.S. para-Xylene commercial applications and supply/demand analysis is given.
